PRESIDENT'S LETTER

Dear IREM Members, Colleagues and Supporters:

THE NEW YEAR HAS ARRIVED!!!

It is again my pleasure and privilege to serve as the San Joaquin Chapter #85 President.  I am excited to continue this journey along with all of those who have assisted with the Chapter's growth and success in 2016.

Our Chapter wrapped up 2016 with a fun-filled holiday program, including the installation of our 2017 Board of Directors by our outgoing Regional Vice President, Laurie Gral.  Members, Industry Partners and our Chapter provided generous gifts for those less fortunate at the Jamison Children's Center and the Christmas for Seniors program.  Thanks to all of you for your continued support!

Our first order of business in 2017 is hosting the 5th Annual Bakersfield Real Estate Forecast Breakfast on January 19th at 7:00 AM.  There is a change of venue this year to the Marriott at the Convention Center in Downtown Bakersfield, which will enable the event to grow and highlight our Chapter's leadership in the Central Valley's real estate markets through a glimpse of what is ahead in 2017.

Throughout 2016 and into 2017, it became apparent that our industry is transforming into the digital age, and technology is a key component in the success of our Chapter as well as the future of property management practices.  It is our goal to use these tools to our advantage as we progress, blending interaction, education and networking to bring a balance to our organization.

Education and property management's best practices continue to be a high priority for our Chapter this year.  We successfully sponsored four scholarships to Chapter members who wished to further their education and credentialing through the Institue of Real Estate Management.  The scholarship funds are made possible by the proceeds from our annual Forecast Breakfast.

We have tentative plans to hold our first joint Chapter event with the California Central Coast Chapter #102 in the 2nd Quarter of 2017.  This will give our members a chance to mix pleasure with educational opportunities at the event, as well as networking!

I wish you all a successful and prosperous New Year!

Sincerely,

Kem Thurman, CPM®

2016-2017 IREM San Joaquin Chapter #85 President
